Datum Explorer

Datum Explorer is a multi-platform project, creating an exploratory virtual experience of the English countryside from anywhere in the world.

A real forest in East Sussex was surveyed using a terrestrial 3D scanner and a binaural recording device. This 3D dataset has been re-imagined as an exploratory digital landscape, part site survey and part game environment filled with elusive fictional animals. From digital app to site specific installation, the project proposes new forms of non-linear digital storytelling, aiming to enrich our understanding of place and discovery in the age of multi-platform experiences.
