VR Screening Room

20-30 November 2014

After decades of troublesome experimentation, Virtual Reality is now on the brink of a breakthrough. Come to the Virtual Reality Screening Room and experience some of the first non-fiction projects made for what many consider the most exciting new medium since cinema and computer games.

Projects vary from 3D and 360-degree filmmaking (Zero Point and Strangers), to computational photography (Clouds) and interactive narratives (Assent). In the installation The Machine to Be Another, visitors are invited to leave their own body behind for a little while and literally experience the world through someone else’s eyes.

IDFA DocLab and De Brakke Grond also commisioned media artist Oscar Raby and Fisheye to create a number of Virtual Reality shorts and experiments which will be presented in the exhibition also. The Machine to Be Another is also part of this year’s theme program Framing Reality, exploring the relation between performance and reality.

November 20-29, 11:00-21:00; November 30, 11:00-18:00 | De Brakke Grond – Witte Zaal

Admission free

Please note: virtual reality is still an experimental technology in development. Some people may experience motion sickness.
