Surprising Europe

An international cross media project contributing to the debate about migration to Europe and creating awareness about the real life of African migrants in Europe.

Surprising Europe consists of a documentary about the initiator of the project, a revealing nine-part television series about the life of African migrants in Europe, and an interactive website that functions as a virtual meeting place for African migrants and anyone interested to voice their concerns and share their stories.

The documentary Surprising Europe, the life and times of Ssuuna Golooba, tells the story of the successful photojournalist Ssuuna Golooba. He left his wife, children and job in Uganda, and moved to Europe in the hope of a better future. There, he realized Europe was not very eager to welcome him.
