John MacFarlane is producer of award-winning interactive and cross-platform documentary projects. He uses his background in journalism, documentary film, media theory and interactive design to develop and produce innovative, meaningful projects at SBS Australia. He is particularly interested in works that promote civic engagement, understanding and equality, and that make creative, valid use of the interactive potential of the web. He has worked on projects that have won at SXSW Interactive, FWA, AIMIA and more and that have been selected for the Webbys, IDFA and elsewhere. He most recently worked as a producer on the interactive documentary The Block: Stories from a Meeting Place.
