IDFA’s new media program DocLab opens with a live event celebrating the unique work of Dutch documentary artist Jan Rothuizen. With performances by photographer Hans Aarsman, writer Dirk van Weelden and the launch of Rothuizen’s latest book: The Soft Atlas of the Netherlands. In his work, Rothuizen takes everyday locations and visualises them on paper, revealing stories and details that a photographic image cannot show. Although he works mostly on paper, Rothuizen’s work is closely related to new media themes such as interactive storytelling.
